Cheers for Buffett drown out underlying fears

Warren Buffett knows how to throw a party.

The chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. presided over a three-day extravaganza this past weekend, complete with confetti, a parade and an army of salesmen hawking every Berkshire-owned product from Dairy Queen Dilly bars to GEICO Corp. auto insurance. For the more than 40,000 shareholders who flocked to Omaha, Neb., for the company’s vaunted annual meeting, this year marked a special celebration: of Berkshire’s 50 successful years under Buffett, of Buffett himself and, perhaps most of all, of the institution of capitalism.
