Colorado HealthOP subject to ‘enhanced oversight’

Colorado Health Insurance Cooperative Inc. is among the handful of health insurance cooperatives subject to an “enhanced oversight” program run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, SNL has learned.

The Colorado Division of Insurance confirmed that the organization, known as Colorado HealthOP, is on the federal list, which the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General said in a July report is reserved for co-ops facing “chronic or significant” difficulties. The OIG said at the time that CMS had placed four co-ops on enhanced oversight or “corrective action” plans, along with two others on “low-enrollment-warning” notifications. However, it did not name any of the troubled organizations.
