The road back for AIG

Robert Benmosche was threatening to quit.

It had been just three months since the federal government had coaxed him out of retirement and into American International Group Inc.’s front office, eight weeks since he nicknamed that same government “those crazies down in Washington,” and about a month since the government agreed to pay him up to $10.5 million anyway. And now AIG’s fourth CEO in a year and a half was standing in front of the company’s board in November 2009, threatening¬†to quit.
